A Link in the Freedom Road
Well, the word is getting out, and the Bishop is about to announce this newly established ministry to the whole diocese. Folks that think there's some sort of demonic interference or worse in their lives are supposed to consult their parish priest, then call us or several other "discerners" for an interview. We help figure out what the trouble really is and what kind of help they need next.
The phone's already ringing off the hook and it's not even official yet. This morning we had our first meeting with the team: the Bishop's Vicar, one of two young priests on the team, me and The Deacon, a talented lay preacher and 8 or 9 of 15 intercessors. I mean, the first meeting without the expert from another diocese who has been training the priests here for a year. He's not coming anymore so we're on our own to figure out the steps to take, and, vitally important, what kind of follow-up care to provide. Just tossing troubled people back into a huge parish is not the answer.
It's important work though, since so many people on all levels tend to interpret any unexplained noises, tingles, shadows etc. as demonic presences. Huge job of education and patient pastoral care lies ahead.Keep up those prayers. Thanks
