Today's Celebration

Ah, yes..more fireworks and festivities today. No, it's not for Memorial Day. Today the Church is celebrating the Visitation, when Mary and Elizabeth had a good visit. Can't you just see it- two pregnant ladies, one young, one older, excited and chatting up a storm? It's big stuff down here. Today is the end of the month honoring Mary, and the nightly Rosary for that intention, so the little girls came by to show me their pretty white dresses, ribbons in their hair, and carrying lovely flowers for the Virgin. Off and on all day the fireworks go off. It gets a little harder to have the frequent processions if the rains hit at the wrong time. Then there's a small group of folks devoted to the Divine Mercy that do their own unofficial procession through the streets every day, carrying the picture of Jesus as Divine Mercy. And, of course, the processions of families going to the cemetery behind the house to honor relatives. Always carrying flowers or tools to tend the grave. As a dear relative remarked recently: "Church sounds a lot more fun down there." Fun, and challenging, and sometimes downright loud.
