What a Birthday!
Hello, faithful readers,
Today is my birthday, but the Man I Live With has been forcing celebrations on me ALL WEEK! Out to dinner, shop for some art for the house, out to dinner, buy a dryer (the land of Perpetual rain and fog here), then for a change, out to dinner! (In case you're wondering about the budget, restaurant meals at really super restaurants here are amazingly reasonable.) You can get the special for $4, usually moderate portions and 4 or 5 courses. If you want fancy, you might pay $8. or a little more.
Then today, the ACTUAL day, we had a wonderful, joyous, 2 and a half hour mass, for the ordination of 5 young transitory deacons. This is a great wealth for our new, small diocese. One of the priests at our table at dinner (catered for 400), said he is responsible for 28 chapels within his parish. The priests will be glad for the help these young men can give.
I was amazed at myself, neither bored nor impatient. You could see and feel the gift the Church has for pageantry, you were reminded of the great historical breadth and length of the Church, but most important of all, you could find yourself spiritually connected to the great unseen One Church, heaven and earth, rejoicing together.
Come on down and get a shot in the arm for your faith!
